One of the best things I have ever done for my career is attend Toastmasters. Since joining in 2016 I have spoken at a number of design and content events in Ireland.

UX Design Institute

Since 2019 I have been a mentor with the UX Design Institute. I provide monthly classes via Zoom, and daily feedback via slack to groups of up to 130 students.

Content Designers Ireland Panel Discussion

In March 2021, I participated in the Irish Content Design Network’s first panel discussion, focused on gaining entry to the industry.

IDI’s Why Design Panel

In June 2020, I spoke at the Irish Design Institute’s panel discussion about the benefits and challenges of agency/studio and freelance design work.

Dublin UX Mental Health Discussion

Also in June 2020, I spoke at Dublin UX’s mental health event. The aim of this event was the highlight mental health challenges in the design community (creatives have some the highest rates of mental health challenges) by discussing my experiences.

Design Talent Portfolio Club

In 2019, as part of Design Talent’s UX Portfolio Club, I worked with soon-to-be and recent grads, as well as career switchers, to help them get the most from their CVs and portfolios.

Leading with Content Design

In 2018, I spoke with Dublin UX’s Leading with Content Design event. At this event I focused on how content is typically neglected in design until the end, yet this is the primary medium consumed by our users.

Designing Design Departments

In 2017 I spoke at the IxDA’s Defuse event in Dublin on the topic of Designing Design Departments in Established Organisations. With only five minutes (and a few nerves) I thought I’d set out what I had learned designing a UX department in a traditional creative agency.
